EXAM TIME!!!

Exam season is just around the corner. We know you are all counting down the days left of the semester but we are here to offer you some tips to survive crunch time. These methods we have used over the past 4 years, and have worked for us.
   - Only read the text material once
   - Make indepth notes on the textbook material so you don't have to go back to the text
   - Read notes over
   - Each time you read the notes you will remember more and more
   - Try to erase at least 3 points each time you read the notes, this will continually condense the notes to areas of concentration
   - Team up with other students to share notes and maximize efficiency

Hopefully these tips help, and you can always sell these notes with your textbook to other students for next year! Anything to earn an extra buck right ;) And when in doubt... Choose B

Georgian College Events (Barrie Campus)

Most of the viewers here at the blog have Facebook access, so here is a vitally important group to join and follow.

This group will keep you posted on sporting activities, bar nights at the TLC, free movie nights, events and fundraisers in the lobbies, giveaways and more.

Employment Fair

This event is a little far away but its definitely one you want to make on your calendar far in advance.
The National Job Fair & Training Expo presents Canada's best and largest public recruitment event in Toronto and Montreal every year.

As student the opportunity to attend an event like this could unviel immense opportunities. We highly suggest you attend this event and see what it has to offer on April 6 & 7th.

We would like to share show tips with you in order to be prepared for this event:
   - Print off alot of resumes and cover letters
   - Research a number of companies that will be there, and why you feel you are the best candidate for this company
   - Be prepared to answer tough questions about experience, education and knowledge
   - Come up with a list of questions that may make you a memorable interviewee
   - Interview right on the the spot... Yes right on the spot

There are 3 types of interviews that could happen during the fair
   - Screening (2-3 minutes), Mini (5-10 minutues) and Full (20-30minutes +)
Your previous preparation will assist in the ease of this interview.

This is a great opportunity and all students should take advantage of this job fair!

Some good icebreakers.. enjoy!

Researchers examined more than 1,000 jokes before whittling them down to a final 50 and getting 36,000 people to vote for their favorites.

1. ''I went to the zoo the other day, there was only one dog in it, it was a shitzu.''

2. A woman gets on a bus with her baby. The bus driver says: ''Ugh, that's the ugliest baby I've ever seen!'' The woman walks to the rear of the bus and sits down, fuming. She says to a man next to her: ''The driver just insulted me!'' The man says: ''You go up there and tell him off. Go on, I'll hold your monkey for you.''

3. ''Dyslexic man walks into a bra''.

4. A young blonde woman is distraught because she fears her husband is having an affair, so she goes to a gun shop and buys a handgun. The next day she comes home to find her husband in bed with a beautiful redhead. She grabs the gun and holds it to her own head. The husband jumps out of bed, begging and pleading with her not to shoot herself. Hysterically the blonde responds to the husband, ''Shut up...you're next!''

5. ''I said to the Gym instructor "Can you teach me to do the splits?'' He said, ''How flexible are you?'' I said, ''I can't make Tuesdays.”

Kennedy's Barbershop

Sara Kennedy is no stranger when it comes to making people look and feel fantastic. Kennedy has been an award winning hair stylist in Barrie for many years but has recently switched tracks and is now going old school.
Sara has opened up a modern yet classic barbershop in the front of the beautifully renovated David Anthony Salon. She is bringing back the classic feeling of a traditional barbershop by offering straight razor and hot towel shaves, as well as cuts and colours.
To start her new venture right, Kennedy is hosting a fundraising event for the month of November. She will be donating $5 from every straight-razor shave to Prostate Cancer Canada.
Check out Kennedy’s Barbershop
67 Toronto St. Barrie ON. 705 309 7272

She is amazingly talented and who doesn’t want to support a good cause??
We wish Sara all the best in her new venture!!!

Canada’s largest country bar... Just got a little sweeter.

The biggest bar in Barrie, just adopted a new wild animal. The Ranch is now hosting a mechanical bull every Friday night. Visit the Ranch’s “Bull Pen” every week, where they promise they’ll get you off in  8 seconds or less. Wouldn’t that be nice!
Also, Saturday nights offer LineDancing lessons from 8-10p.m. Have fun and learn a few moves that you can show off later in the night. You can be sure the music will be great, the instructors will be smoking hot and the drinks will be flowing.
So saddle up and get down to The Ranch for some fun!

Groupon

Www.groupon.com is a great website that we have used many times.
The website features different deals of the day from cities across the world. These deals are usually services offered by different companies at half price (OR MORE!) ranging from spa treatments, dinners, sporting activities or tourist attractions.

If you are planning to visit a different city on holiday you can subscribe to receive daily emails alerting you on the latest deal! This will also give you great ideas of what you can do on your holiday to make it interesting and memorable. Or you can subscribe to your hometown and take advantage of the savings that are available.
I have personally purchased different deals from this website because they have some great activities. It’s an inexpensive way to spice up a weekend with a different activity than you are used to.
So enjoy the website, check it out and subscribe to the city of your choice!

Holiday Countdown! (being "PC")

Just wanted to send out a reminder to you guys: Holiday time is approximately 6 weeks away!

We all know you are poor Georgian students, so here are some awesome gift ideas because we all know coupons for hugs expire after the age of 12.

1.   1. Bake cookies or desserts for co workers, staff parties, or people you probably should think about but don’t really want too.  You cant go wrong with some good ‘ol chocolate chip snacks.
2    2.  Make or personally design your own Christmas cards. Its thoughtful, cheap and gets your point across.
3.   3.   Shop online. We are giving you a good heads up here.. you have a good probability of getting a good deals and have time for it to be under the tree by the 25th.
4.   4. Pay attention to stores like Walmart and Ikea who have Christmas days where they offer really good deals on specific days.
5.   5. Shop at vintage stores.. you may find really unique gifts, like an original copy of a Harper Lee novel for mom or sister.
6.   6. Art Work. Whether it be a tree ornament or a meaningful sketch, try it out!

Hope this helps!

Hangover Myths

This past weekend we hit the bar a little too hard.  Everyone was very fast in offering their hangover cures to me but what really works?
We are here to determine the gems we need to keep around from the myths that leave us screaming at the toilet.
1.       A morning mimosa cures all- MYTH! (It will just make you drunk again)
2.       Taking Advil or Tylenol before bed- MYTH! (It will help your head in the morning though)
3.       McDonalds grease!- Questionable! (No scientific evidence but we all know it works)
4.       Beer before Liquor You’ll Never be Sicker- Myth! (It doesn’t matter what you drink- only how much you drink)
5.       Drink water- Classic Gem. (This is the number one hangover cure that we recommend. Drink water after your night out to ensure your body rehydrates itself.)
Pointers to remember
-          Drinks that are free- We don't count the calories!
-          Girls, I’ve tried it so many times- We’re not one of the boys so don’t try to out drink ‘em
-          Lastly, if attending a kegger, always ALWAYS wear pants for the keg stand!
Safe, Happy and Unhungover Weekends to All!!!!!

Movie Time

Sorry this post took so long guys. We had reading week and finals- kind of got in the way of our blog.
But we are back and better than ever!
We know how much everyone loves a good laugh so we are here to review the Jackass 3D Movie.
If you are weak in the stomach this movie is absolutely not for you. It was priceless for those that could  handle it. The movie contains secretions from the human body that are unspeakable on our blog. We do however highly recommend you see it.
We have forever been changed by the Sweat Suit Cocktail
If you are on your A-Game and have already seen Jackass, then Due Date is currently out and should be amazing. From the producers of The Hangover, staring Zach Galifianakis and Robert Downy Jr, this movie is sure to make you laugh until to you cry.
So lay off the bottle for a night and enjoy some good laughs!

Good Ol' Thanksgiving

Usually the first weekend all college students go home to Mommy and Daddy’s house, to drink and eat way too much and not study one bit before midterms. It’s an extremely productive weekend.
 Two Thanksgiving Pointers:
1.       Check out your waistline:
-          Noticed your jeans are getting a little tighter? That’s what we like to call the early stages of the FRESHMAN 15! The freshman 15 likes to keep your love handles and stomach area some company over the winter months. It will slooowwwwlllyyy creep up on you until.. POWWWWW!!!! Welcome to College
2.       The one most important event that Thanksgiving is known for the Turkey Dumping, yes, dumping! All the summer romances that promised to make it work during the school year, crash and burn during this weekend. Ladies and Gentlemen, Prepare to have your hearts broken...

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone! xoxo T & H

Halloween is just around the corner!
Halloween costumes are so typical. You can pretty much guess what there's going to be at a party before you even walk in the door.
Guys we know all about the breathalyzer costume... and ladies a french maid, again, this year???

Make sure to plan your costume ahead of time, no one wants to have the worst costume that falls apart by midnight.
1. Try something different this year, get those creative minds thinking and be unique.
2. Also, take my advice, NOT A GOOD IDEA TO GO TO THE COSTUME STORE THE MORNING OF THE PARTY! It's a hot mess in there.

And remember ladies, it's not a competition of who can wear the least clothes!

SPC Card

Hi guys,
So...I was finally giving in and buying my last text book for the semester from the college book store. They asked if I had an SPC card or if I was interested in buying one...
I always hear about the SPC card, but what exactly is it? The answer to that... FRICKING AWESOME!!
-          The SPC card costs $9
-          Can be used at over 120 retail stores
-          Saves you AT LEAST 10-15% OFF EACH purchase
-          Additional sales and savings online
This means that buying a $100 pair of shoes from Aldo, will save you $10-15, at least, BEFORE the taxes. The card will pay for itself during the first purchase.
We know being students who want to shop, drink, and party and look good all at the same time can be expense... SPC Card and Barrie Curbside are here to help!
Don’t forget the Weekly Perks section of the website my thrifty little students!!!

Barrie Bar Profiles

Since school is just starting up again and if you’re new to town you are probably starting to venture to the downtown entertainment strip. We thought we would give you a breakdown of local bars to help you find something that suits your style.

Kenzingtons
This classy, yet relaxed environment is great place to begin a crazy evening out or to keep a steady, easy going pace for the whole night. Kenzingtons features live bands on weekends featuring many genres of music, which is typically a pretty good crowd-pleaser. The people there are usually a bit older, probably starting from 22 all the way to retirement. The line up there is unpredictable, sometimes busy, sometimes not, but they are open every night of the week until 2am.
The Bank
If you’re up for a night of dancing, good-looking people and a sophisticated atmosphere, then The Bank is the place to be. Here ladies are in free before 11, otherwise there is a $5 cover and be prepared for a rather long line. Although, college night is Thursday evening where they have $4 drinks all night. Another good feature is the upstairs SkyBank, a heated rooftop patio, where you can even stop by for lunch during the week. With dress code always in effect, people are fairly dressed up here, so be sure to be in your Sunday best and to brush up on those sweet moves you have.
The Ranch
It may be the country music, the mechanical bull or the overlooking terraces for dancing that makes this bar a genuinely fun place to go. You are able to visit the largest bar in Barrie for a $5 cover on weekends. They offer free line dancing classes on Fridays between 8 and 10pm that would make for a good time for Birthdays or bachelorette parties.
British Arms
This U.K. inspired pub is usually a pretty mellow place on weekdays to hang out for a fresh pint or something off their surprisingly good menu. On weekends, the “B.A.” usually has live music and no cover.
The Queens
The Queens in Barrie is a classic choice for a night out. Being one of the oldest bars in Barrie, it has a lot to offer. There are two parts to The Queens: Sports side and Dance side. Sports side is typically a more mature crowd, while dance side is usually a younger college group. Both sides have cheap drinks before 11pm, lots of dancing and usually fairly busy on weekends.
